mySlice beta launched by the Queenstown Workers Collective

The Queenstown Workers Collective was established in 2023 in Tāhuna / Queenstown in order to support local and migrant workers, to collect, compare and share information about wages and conditions in the local job market, as well as to advocate for workers’ rights and status in the area. We don’t just try to support local workers, we are local workers helping ourselves and each other. We make this town run, so it’s beyond time we got our fair slice of the cake!

The Queenstown Workers Collective

  • Collects information about local wages and conditions from:

    • Public advertisements listing situations vacant.

    • Asking employers for information about their wages and conditions.

    • An anonymous ‘tip-line’ for local workers to report their wages and conditions without fear of retribution.

  • Compares and contrasts wages and conditions across and between different sectors.

  • Presents this data in accessible, useful formats that workers can easily understand and use to their advantage.

  • Advocates for workers’ rights in the region, and for workers to actually be included in discussions on how to solve the labour and accommodation shortages.

  • Encourages workers to join their relevant trade union in order to have the best chance to achieve long-term fair wages and conditions.
